Bulldogs Travel to #13 Tennessee

12.02.2008 | Men's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? Things don't get any easier for the UNC Asheville men's basketball team Wednesday night as the Bulldogs travel to #13 Tennessee Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by SportSouth and broadcast on WISE (1310-AM) radio.

UNC Asheville is 3-3 on the season and will try and break a three-game losing streak. The Bulldogs fell at top-ranked North Carolina Sunday night, 116-48. Asheville battled but the Tar Heels were simply too quick and too tall for the Bulldogs and won going away.

The Bulldogs will have their hands full with a talented Tennessee (5-1) squad that lost to Gonzaga Sunday night, 83-74 in the finals of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando. The Volunteers went to the “Sweet 16” last year and are averaging 87 points per game this season.

Tennessee is very good and very explosive offensively,” declared UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. “We're going to have do a much better job taking care of the ball and play much better on defense. We're going to have our hands full, and we'd better be ready to play.”

Biedenbach had no problem with the effort at North Carolina on Sunday.

“We battled and fought hard but when you play a team like North Carolina every mistake you make they're going to take advantage of,” commented Biedenbach. “When we didn't get back on defense, they got lay-ups. When we didn't take care of the basketball, they stole it and scored. When we didn't guard them from the three-point line, they made three-pointers.

“What we hope is that playing a team like North Carolina or Tennessee makes you better for the rest of the season,” added Biedenbach.

The Bulldogs have shown some good balance in their scoring in the early part of the season. Four players are averaging in double figures for Asheville. They are Reid Augst (11.5), Sean Smith (10.8), John Williams (10.5) and J.P. Primm (10.0).
