DURHAM, N.C. - #6 Duke placed six players in double figures as the Blue Devils downed UNC Asheville 99-56 at Cameron Indoor Stadium Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs (4-6) led early and were led by Reid Augst with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. John Williams chipped in 11 points.

Duke's (9-1) defense forced 24 UNC Asheville turnovers. The Blue Devils had command of the boards with a 42-24 advantage.

“We did some good things early but we turned it over way too much,” commented UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. “I was disappointed with the job we did on the boards. We didn't battle like we should have.

“However, this is a game that will make us better down the road,” added Biedenbach. “Duke is very good and for a team as young as we are this was a tough match-up. We'll learn from it and get better.

UNC Asheville led 11-10 after five minutes but the Blue Devils went on a three-point shooting spree and raced to an 18-point lead. The Bulldogs battled back and crept to 46-35 with two minutes to go in the half.

Asheville then had three unforced turnovers and Duke made the Bulldogs pay and built a 52-35 halftime lead.

The Blue Devils turned on the defense in the second half and limited Asheville to just 21 points and 36 percent (9-of-25) shooting from the field.

“We got away from our offense, especially in the second and Duke took full advantage of it,” stated Biedenbach.

UNC Asheville plays next at the University of Buffalo Saturday afternoon starting at 4 p.m.
