ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's basketball team will play its earliest Big South Conference game ever Tuesday afternoon when the Bulldogs host league rival Liberty on ESPN starting at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally by ESPN as part of the network's 24 Hours of Hoops.

Tickets are still available for the game and can be purchased by calling 251-6904 or bought on-line at www.uncabulldogs.com.

UNC Asheville is 2-0 on the young season after posting wins over Belmont Abbey (75-63) on Friday and Montreat (91-78) on Saturday. The two victories have been nice but the Bulldogs will get a stiff test from a talented Liberty squad. The Flames opened the season with a 97-77 victory over Montreat Friday night.

Liberty is very talented and will be a tough opponent for us to face on Tuesday,” commented UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. “They return the Preseason Player of the Year in Anthony Smith and enjoyed a great recruiting class. We played well in spots in the first two games but we're going to have to play a lot better on Tuesday.”

Asheville has had balanced scoring in the first two games. Senior Reid Augst and sophomore John Williams lead the team in scoring with a 15.0 average. Wiliams had a double-double against Montreat with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He is shooting 62 percent (13-of-21) from the field.

The Bulldogs were among the nation's leaders in field goal percentage last season and are shooting 48.5 percent this year (66-of-136). Freshman guard J.P. Primm has done a nice job running the Asheville offense with 14 assists in the first two games. He had eight assists against Montreat on Sunday.

Eddie Biedenbach's club is trying to start 3-0 for the second straight year. The Bulldogs began last season with a school-record 5-0 start. Asheville hits the road after tomorrow's game for four straight games, including dates at North Carolina (Nov. 30) and Tennessee (Dec. 3).

Anthony Smith was a first team all-conference performer for Liberty last season. He scored 25 points against Montreat on opening night. Freshman guard Seth Curry, brother of Davidson star Stephan Curry, had seven assists against Montreat
