ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's basketball team plays its second game of the season on Sunday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Montreat College at Justice Centers starting at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WISE Radio (1310-AM) and can be seen via video-streaming for a small fee at www.bigsouthsports.com.

UNC Asheville opened the season with a hard-fought 75-63 win over Belmont Abbey Friday night at Justice Center. The Bulldogs had a great night from senior forward Reid Augst with 19 points, while John Williams tallied a career-best 16 points. Jason Ridenhour pumped in a career-best 12 points.

Montreat is 1-2 on the season after losing at Big South foe Liberty Friday night, 97-77. The Cavaliers battled the Flames even in the second half after Liberty led 48-29 at halftime.

“Montreat is always a tough opponent,” commented UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. “We know what a great job Bill Robinson (Monreat's head coach) does every year and he'll have his team ready to play on Sunday.

“We played good defense against Belmont Abbey and beat a veteran team that will win a lot of games this year,” added Biedenbach. “However, we did not do a good job on the boards and made way too many turnovers. We're still learning and at times we show our youth but our effort was once again outstanding.”

Montreat is led by senior guard MJ Njoku. He had a double-double at Liberty with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore center Seth Moore scored 10 points and had nine rebounds against the Flames.

UNC Asheville won last year's meeting 94-64 and leads the series, 14-1. However, Montreat defeated Asheville in an exhibition game three years ago, 68-65.

“Montreat is much improved this season,” said Biedenbach. “They played Liberty even in the second half on Friday and scored 77 points. We better be ready to play.”

NOTES ? UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach has 196 career victories...the Bulldogs are trying to start out the year 2-0 for the second straight season...UNC Asheville blocked six shots on Friday...the Bulldogs have won 18 of their last 21 home games.
