Bussard Takes 10th Place in Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, KY. ? UNC Asheville Emma Bussard continued her impressive freshman season as she took 10th place in the women's blue 5-kilometer race at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning.

 

Bussard finished with a time of 19:28.40 and helped the Bulldogs capture ninth place in the 28 team competition.

 

Bussard was followed by Katie Olert in 43rd place (20:40.34), Mackenzie Wheation in 56th place (20:56.91), Michelle Busse in 59th place (21:04.87), Emily Becker in 61st place (21:07.65), Erin Putnam in 79th place (21:29.57), and Katherine Clark in 106th place (22:14.59).

 

In the men's gold 8K race, Asheville senior Andrew Burnette led the way for the Bulldogs with a 92nd place finish (25:36.38) in a field of nearly 300 competitors.

 

Sam Maynard took 140th place (26:03.88) and was followed by Adam Matthews in 181st place (26:34.02), Kent Rankin in 194th place (26:45.34), Jay Barringer in 242nd place (27:30.85), Jake Latini in 257th place (27:44.02), Matt Holman in 280th place (28:47.25), and Adam Vick in 281st place (28:53.86).

 

In the men's team competition, the Bulldogs finished 28th out of 33 teams.

 

Head coach Jesse Norman was impressed with how the men's side ran in a race that was included several dominant programs

 

“I'm pleased we finished ahead of Winthrop,” said Norman.  “They beat us earlier in the season, so it was good to finish ahead of them.  We also had everyone set personal records, which was really good.”

 

The Bulldogs return to action on Oct. 17 at the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State University.
