Men's Basketball Moves to 15th in Mid-Major Poll

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's basketball team has moved up to 15th in the latest edition of the College Insider Mid-Major poll that was released Monday night. The Bulldogs received 336 votes from coaches around the country that coach in mid-major conferences.

 

UNC Asheville was ranked for the first time three weeks when it was 22nd with 112 votes. The Bulldogs moved to 20th two weeks ago with 171 votes before climbing to 19th last week with 213 votes. .

 

UNC Asheville is 17-4 for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs are a perfect 6-0 in Big South Conference play after winning three games last week. UNC Asheville downed Radford, 82-63 last Wednesday night at home before taking a pair of games on the South Carolina coast this past weekend. The Bulldogs won at Charleston Southern, 86-73 on Saturday night and then slipped past Coastal Carolina, 56-52 Monday night.

 

The Bulldogs' 336 votes put them ahead of Cleveland State (334), Cal State Northridge (305), Illinois State (286), Pacific (221), Stephen F. Austin (147), Ohio (121), Oral Roberts (91), IUPUI (87), UT-Arlington (65) and Rider (62).

 

Gonzaga is ranked first in the poll with 758 votes with Butler right behind them at 729 votes.

 

Asheville plays once this week as the Bulldogs host defending Big South Conference champion Winthrop Saturday afternoon at Justice Center starting at 4:30 p.m.
