01.22.2008 | Men's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's basketball team has moved up to 19th in the latest edition of the College Insider Mid-Major poll that was released Monday night. The Bulldogs received 213 votes from coaches around the country that coach in mid-major conferences.

Asheville was ranked for the first time two weeks when it was 22nd with 112 votes. The Bulldogs moved to 20th last week with 171 votes.

UNC Asheville went 2-0 last week with Big South Conference victories over preseason favorite High Point (74-58) Wednesday night and a 90-87 road win at VMI Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs have a 14-4 overall record and are 3-0 in league play. The 3-0 start in Big South Conference action is the best for a UNC Asheville squad since the 2001-02 team started 5-0.

The Bulldogs' 213 votes put them ahead of New Orleans (148), Ohio (110), Pacific (91), IUPUI (85), Valparaiso (70) and Oral Roberts (51).

Head Coach Eddie Biedenbach's team plays host to Radford Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs then travel to the coast of South Carolina for two league games. Asheville plays at Charleston Southern Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Coastal Carolina Monday night starting at 7 p.m.
