Jones & Garland Honored by Big South Conference

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville freshman guard Donovan Jones and junior guard K.J. Garland were honored by the Big South Conference on Monday.

Jones earned a spot on the five-man All-Rookie squad. The Wilson, N.C. native has played in 27 games for the Bulldogs this season and is averaging 5.1 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game. The freshman guard is third on the team in assists with 51 and was named Big South Freshman of the Week once this year. He is one of two UNC Asheville players to have double-doubles this year when he scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against VMI on Jan. 22.

Garland was named to the six-man All-Academic team for the first time in his career. The Mathematics major has a 3.61 GPA and has been a three-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll and five times has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's 3.0 & Above Club. The Greensboro native has also enjoyed an outstanding year on the court, as well. Garland is averaging 11.6 points per game and leads the Bulldogs in assists with 116. He leads the Big South in assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio in league play. Garland has scored in double figures in Asheville's last seven league games. He is currently tied for sixth place on the school's all-time career assist list with 319.
