Men's Basketball Ranked in Latest NCAA Statistics

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's basketball team is off to its best start in 23 years with a 6-2 overall record. The Bulldogs have the statistics to prove how good they've played in the first part of the year.

 

The NCAA released its first statistical report on Monday night and UNC Asheville is listed in eight different categories either as a team or an individual player.

 

Junior center Kenny George is listed in two categories. The Chicago native leads the nation in blocked shots with a 6.5 per game average and is second in field goal percentage at 75.6 percent (31-of-41). The Bulldogs as a team are tied with Connecticut for first place in blocked shots at 9.1.

 

Junior forward Reid Augst has hit 22 straight free throws and is second in the nation in free throw percentage at 96 percent (24-of-25).

 

Senior guard K.J. Garland has averaged 6.4 assists per game and that has him 18th nationally. As a team, UNC Asheville is 14th nationally in assists per game with an 18.5 average.

 

The Bulldogs have done a great job shooting the ball all year and are ranked seventh in three-point percentage at 44.7 percent (59-of-132). Asheville is 21st and first in the Big South in field goal percentage at 50.2 percent (211-420).

 

UNC Asheville has not played since a 65-51 loss at Virginia Tech on Dec. 1. The Bulldogs host Campbell Thursday night at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m.
