Kenny George Named Big South Men's Basketball Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville junior center Kenny George (Chicago, Ill.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Charleston Southern guard Jamarco Warren (Gainesville, Ga.) received New Balance Freshman of the Week honors for games played the opening weekend of the 2007-08 season (Nov. 9-11), it was announced today by the League office.
George averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.5 blocked shots in helping Asheville open the season 2-0 for the first time since 1989-90. In the Bulldogs' 78-75 win over Furman, George scored 12 points, had seven rebounds and five blocks, while hitting four crucial free throws in the final minutes to help seal the win. Against Lees-McRae, George just missed a triple-double, netting 15 points, 10 blocks and nine rebounds. He tied the Big South single-game blocked shots record while setting the school mark in the win. On the week, George was 11-of-15 from the floor ( =.733) and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
