CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Radford junior forward Chris Oliver (Kernersville, N.C.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 16-22, while UNC Asheville forward Michael Ellis (Statesville, N.C.) received New Balance Freshman of the Week honors, it was announced today by the League office.

Ellis enjoyed two break-out games for the Bulldogs, averaging 23.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in his first two career starts. He dropped in a career-high 28 points at Coastal Carolina, shooting 11-of-15 ( =.733) from the floor, while adding six rebounds and four assists. It was the most points scored by an Asheville freshman in more than 20 years. In UNCA's win over VMI Saturday, Ellis scored 18 points - 16 in the second-half, while going 8-of-8 from the line and notching four steals. For the week, Ellis, who entered the game averaging 4.6 points, went 16-of-24 from the field ( =.667), 14-of-17 from the charity stripe ( =.824), in addition to 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals.
