CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior guard Omar Collington (Decatur, Ga.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 2-8, while VMI guard Travis Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) received New Balance Freshman of the Week honors, it was announced today by the League office.

It marked the first time that the senior guard has ever been named Big South Player of the Week in his career.

Collington averaged 25.0 points, .696 percent from the field (16-of-23) and .765 percent from the arc (13-of-17) in two Conference games last week for the Bulldogs. He tied his career-high of 21 points at Radford on 7-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-6 from three-point range - setting a school record for single-game three-point percentage. Against Birmingham-Southern Saturday, Collington exploded for 29 points and was 8-of-11 from long range, tying the UNCA record for three-pointers in a game. Collington entered the weekend with season averages of 8.4 points, .346 from the floor and .250 from three-point range.
