Chasity Melvin season on the UNC Asheville staff in 2025-26.Â
The Bulldogs won four games in Melvin's first season on staff. The Bulldogs picked up their first win at Asheville on Dec. 4 as the Bulldogs thumped Warren Wilson 98-23, before Asheville beat Brevard 79-45 on Dec. 30 for their second win. Asheville picked up its first Big South Conference win under Lewis on Feb. 26 at Presbyterian by a score of 67-60, before upending the Blue Hose again in the Big South Conference Tournament 69-63. Melvin coached Dakota McCaughan who earned Big South Conference Player of the Week honors on Dec. 2 on a career-best 29 points on a career-best 9-16 from beyond the arc at Tennessee State. McCaughan was named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team, while she and Skylar Bailey were both named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections.Â
Chasity Melvin joins Lewis’s staff from the coaching staff of the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA, where she helped the team reach the WNBA Finals in 2021.
Prior to her time in Phoenix, she was on staff at Loyola-Maryland, where the Greyhounds led the Patriot League in steals and steals per game and were also second in turnovers forced and three-point field goal defense in 2019-20.
Prior to her time at Loyola she was the first woman to coach in the Charlotte Hornets organization, serving as an assistant coach with the G-League affiliate Greensboro Swarm. At that time she was also a participant in the NBA’s Assistant Coaches Program.
Prior to getting her start in coaching, Melvin finished a 10-year WNBA career with over 4,000 career points and 2,000 career rebounds including an All-Star campaign in 2001. Her 890 career offensive rebounds are seventh-most in WNBA history.
Melvin is a former college teammate of head coach Tynesha Lewis, as the pair played under Kay Yow at N.C. State.Â
