Bulldogs Stay Hot with Shutout Win at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer stayed hot in its start to the season with a 3-0 shutout win at Georgia State Wednesday night (Sept. 23). At 7-1-1 through nine matches, the Bulldogs are off to the best start in the program's Division I era.
The teams traded runs, possession and chances throughout the first half, as Georgia State outshot Asheville 6-5. Asheville made their final run of the half count with two minutes to play in the period, when Matteo Samori fed the ball ahead to a streaking Tyler Ware who was headed toward the Georgia State box. Ware took the pass in stride and beat the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead, his sixth goal of the season and 13th of his college career.
The teams started the second half with a similar style, as the Bulldogs eventually turned up the pressure and created runs into the Georgia State end. The Bulldogs made a run in the 58th minute that started with Kayoum M'Bamba playing a ball down the far wing to a hard-charging Ware, who got to the end line and fed the ball across the goal mouth. Arnor Hardarson got a touch on it to stash home his fourth of the season and eighth of his career, with Ware picking up his sixth assist of the season and 13th helper of his career and M'Bamba picking up his third assist of the season and third of his career on the play.
Asheville outshot Georgia State in total 10-7 in the match, including 8-3 in shots on goal in the contest. Asheville also earned two corner kicks in the contest to Georgia State's five in the match. Ware and Hardarson each paced the offense with three shots apiece, with Hardarson matching his career-high. Charlie Wood, Woody Angell, Louie Salkeld and Sjoerd Spijkers each had one shot in the match, with Spijkers also matching his career-high. Andrew Kohlberg (1-0-0) made three saves in his first career start to collect his first career win and his first career shutout.

The Bulldogs continued to up the offensive pressure in the later stages, ultimately breaking through for the match's final goal in the 72nd minute. M'Bamba made a run down the far wing and was able to create space for a cross. He sent the ball across the goal box and Ware was able to head it home for his second goal of the night to bring the match to its final score.
