Bulldogs Ride Second Half Wave to Rout of Presbyterian Sunday Night

CLINTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer rode a wave of five second half goals to a 5-0 rout of Presbyterian Sunday night (Sept. 27) in Big South Conference action. The Bulldogs continue their best start in the program's Division I era with the win and are 2-0-0 in conference play for the first time since 2020.
The Bulldogs maintained steady offensive pressure throughout the first half, only registering three shots and two corner kicks but also holding Presbyterian without a shot or corner kick in the opening frame. A pivotal moment in the half came in the 33rd minute, when a hard tackle near the benches was reviewed and led to a Presbyterian red card leaving the Blue Hose with 10 men for the remainder of the match. Despite that, the match went to the half scoreless.
The Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the second half, keeping the pressure on in the Presbyterian end. As Asheville challenged in the box, a Bulldog was taken down which prompted a video review. Upon review, Tyler Ware stepped to the penalty spot and buried the match's first goal in the 57th minute for his eighth of the season and 15th of his career.
Asheville outshot Presbyterian 14-3 in the match, including 6-1 in shots on frame in the match while also earning three corner kicks and holding Presbyterian to one. Ware paced the offense and matched his career-high with six shots in the match, with Smith also had two shots in the match. Charlie Wood, Angell, Salkeld, M'Bamba, Matteo Samori and Alexander Guindy each also had one shot in the match. Lucca Barros (7-1-1) picked up his fourth shutout of the season and eighth of his career with one save in the match.

Just three minutes later, Ware registered yet another brace with his second of the night when he headed home a feed into the box for a 3-0 Bulldog lead. Just two minutes after that, the Bulldogs came into the Presbyterian end on another run with Ware feeding Kayoum M'Bamba on the near side in space. M'Bamba corralled the pass and blasted a right-footed shot to the back of the net for his fourth of the season and fourth of his career, with Ware picking up his seventh assist of the season and 14th of his career on the play.78' | What's another 🤷♂️
