Bulldogs Run Wild in 11-0 Rout of High Point on Friday

05.15.2026 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball ran wild for eight stolen bases to go along with a dazzling performance from Lucas Boesen in an 11-0 rout of High Point on Friday (May 15) at Greenwood Field. The eight stolen bases were the most for the Bulldogs in a single game since Mar. 29, 2011 when the team swiped 12 bags in a 14-8 win at North Carolina A&T. On top of the chaos on the bases, the Bulldogs were able to hand High Point their first double-digit loss of the season.

Asheville scored its first run in the bottom of the first when Logan Lowe scored on a Ben Green groundout, before the teams would trade scoreless frames all the way until the bottom of the seventh. Ben Hemphill led off the inning with a single to right field, before stealing second. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Coleman McGinnis, Hemphill would get an edge on the Panthers left-handed pitcher to steal home and give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead going to the eighth. After Boesen and Nic Melton combined to hold High Point off the board in the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs would erupt for nine runs in the home half to bring the game to its final score.

Lowe would draw a walk to open the inning, before eventually stealing second and third with one out. After Owen Michelson drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Green doubled down the left field line to score two runs and double Asheville's lead in the game. With two outs in the inning, Hemphill would bloop a single to right to score Green before stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball on the same pitch. McGinnis would take first on a hit-by-pitch, before the Bulldogs resorted to trickery to allow Hemphill to steal home for a second time in the game. McGinnis bluffed a misstep breaking from first, drawing the attention of the Panther infield before Hemphill raced home for his fourth stolen base of the game. McGinnis would steal second on the play as well, before Zeb Swangim was hit by a pitch to continue the inning. Jake Pereira would keep the inning alive beating out a single to first base, before Lowe came back around and delivered a bases-clearing double into the left center gap to score all three runs. Tyler Parks would continue the inning with a double down the left field line to score Lowe, before Green welcomed a High Point pitching change with a single through the left side to score Parks for Asheville's ninth run of the frame.

Lowe paced the offense with three hits, while Parks, Green and Hemphill each had two hits in the game and Gillen and Pereira each also had one hit in the game. Lowe also scored three runs in the game, while Hemphill scored twice and Parks, Michelson, Green, McGinnis, Swangim and Pereira each scored one run in the game. Green led the way with a career-high four runs batted in for the game, while Lowe also drove in three runs and Parks and Hemphill each drove in one run in the game. Hemphill's four stolen bases are just one shy of the program's single-game record, while Lowe also stole two bases and Gillen and McGinnis each had one stolen base in the game. Boesen (3-3) registered his best outing of the season, firing eight shutout innings scattering three hits with a season-high 11 punchouts and five walks. Melton polished off the game with a clean inning of work, picking up one strikeout and also inducing a game-ending double play.

The Bulldogs return to Greenwood Field tomorrow (Saturday, May 16) to wrap up the regular season. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. We will recognize our graduating seniors at 11:40 a.m. prior to first pitch!
