Baseball Battles, Drops Midweek Tilt at East Tennessee State on Tuesday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - UNC Asheville Baseball battled, but dropped its midweek tilt at East Tennessee State on Tuesday (Apr. 28) by a score of 10-7.

ETSU built a 7-0 lead through the first two innings, before Lucas Boesen held the Buccaneers off the board through the fifth as the teams traded scoreless frames into the sixth. Each team scored three runs in the sixth, with Eric Krumpe starting the top of the inning reaching on an error on the ETSU infield. After an ETSU pitching change, Jake Minarik would draw a walk before the first two outs of the inning were recorded. Zeb Swangim would keep the inning alive with an infield single to third base, before Jake Pereira would single through the right side to score Krumpe and Minarik and get the Bulldogs on the board. After another pitching change, Gillen would come to the plate and reach on an infield single to second base with a throwing error allowing him to advance to second and Swangim to score. After ETSU added three runs in the home half, the teams traded scoreless frames in the seventh before Asheville plated four runs in the top of the eighth to ultimately bring the game to its final score. Swangim began the inning with a one-out single to shortstop, before Pereira drew a walk to advance Swangim to second. After a pitching change, Gillen reached on an error at second base that allowed Swangim to score before Gillen later stole second. Michelson later drew a two-out walk to extend the inning, before Pereira would steal home with Gillen and Michelson each advancing on a wild pitch. Krumpe would draw a walk to further extend the inning, before Minarik would welcome a new ETSU pitcher with a two-RBI single to right that scored Gillen and Michelson.

Gillen and Swangim each paced the offense with two hits in the game, while Blaize Johnson, Krumpe, Minarik, Tyler Parks, Logan Lowe and Pereira each registered one hit in the game.
