Baseball Drops Series Opener to Charleston Southern

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball dropped its series opener to Charleston Southern Friday night (Apr. 24) by a score of 12-2.

Charleston Southern jumped out to a 5-0 lead through an inning and a half, before Asheville answered with one run in the bottom of the second when Logan Lowe scored on a Patrick Gillen RBI single to left field. After a scoreless third, the Bulldogs would get another run in the bottom of the fourth when Lowe scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. Charleston Southern would bring the game to its final score with three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Lowe paced the offense with two hits in the game, while Gillen, Owen Michelson and Jake Minarik each had one hit in the game. Lowe scored twice in the game, while Gillen also drove in one run. Lowe also stole a pair of bases in the game. Garrett Crum (0-5) took the loss on the bump for the Bulldogs allowing eight runs, five earned through 5.2 innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Lucas Boesen gave the Bulldogs 3.1 innings of solid relief allowing four runs, two earned on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Â
