Patterson Claims Big South Title; Bulldogs Finish Second, Advance to Match Play

FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – For the first time in program history, a member of the UNC Asheville women's golf program has claimed the individual Big South Championship title, as Caroline Patterson captured medalist honors with a 1-under par tournament finish. With the win, Patterson is also the first player in program history to advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
As a team, Asheville surged up the leaderboard into second after opening in seventh place, improving each round with scores of 314–302–297 (913, +49). The Bulldogs posted the lowest team round of the day Tuesday with a 297.
Asheville entered the day tied with Longwood in fourth and played alongside the Lancers and Charleston Southern in the final round. The Bulldogs jumped ahead of Radford and Winthrop to take second and Longwood also moved ahead of the Highlanders and Eagles to secure third. Charleston Southern, Radford, and Winthrop tied for fourth at 922. Charleston Southern claimed the final match play spot after winning a sudden-death playoff.
The 54-hole stroke play event was held at the Ocean Creek Golf Course (par 72, 6,032 yards) on Fripp Island, S.C.

PATTERSON MAKES HER-STORY
Patterson's championship run included rounds of 79–67–69 (-1), as she rebounded from a tie for 26th after round one to claim the title. Her second-round 67 (-5) marked one of the best rounds of the tournament and vaulted her into contention before she sealed the win with a 3-under 69 on Tuesday, fueled by five birdies, with two birdies in her final three holes.
She led the field on par 5s at 3-under with a 4.80 scoring average and tied for first with 12 birdies. Patterson earned All-Championship Team honors.
BULLDOG FINISHES
Breanna Hoese placed ninth with rounds of 77–75–76 (+12).
Jordyn Arts finished T21 with rounds of 83–76–77 (+20) and tied for second in the field on par 5s at 2-under (4.87 average).
Pennie Osterberg carded her best round of the tournament Tuesday with a 75, finishing T27 with rounds of 79–86–75 (+24).
Lauren Madson rounded out the lineup with rounds of 79–84–82 (+29), placing 33rd.
