Wofford struck first in the game in a big way, putting up five runs in the top of the first. After the teams traded scoreless frames heading to the bottom of the third, the Bulldogs responded with two runs to cut into the deficit. Chase Klingemann started the rally with a one-out single up the middle for the first Asheville hit of the game, before he moved up to second on a groundout for the second out of the inning. Patrick Gillen drew a four-pitch walk to keep the inning going, before Blaize Johnson drove an 0-2 pitch to right for a single to score Klingemann and push Gillen to third while getting the Bulldogs on the board. With Ben Green up, Johnson got himself into a run-down and held out long enough for Gillen to score on the play for Asheville's second run of the inning. After a scoreless fourth for both teams, Asheville responded to take the lead with five runs in the home half of the fifth. Ben Hemphill would start the inning with a single to center for his first hit of the 2026 season, before Coleman McGinnis reached on a bunt single to put runners at first and second with no one out. Klingemann was able to lay down a sacrifice bunt to push both runners up one base, before Logan Lowe singled to left to score Hemphill and move McGinnis to third with one out. Gillen would bring the Bulldogs back within one with a single through the ride side, scoring McGinnis and moving Lowe to third for Johnson. After a Wofford pitching change, Johnson would welcome the new Terrier arm to the game with a three-run moonshot to right to give Asheville a 7-5 lead.

Johnson drove in a career-high five runs in the game, while Lowe and Gillen each drove in one run. Green got the start on the bump for the Bulldogs, before giving way to Nick Bruno (1-0) who shouldered the load in his longest relief outing of the season and longest of his Bulldog career. The southpaw fired 4.1 innings of scoreless relief, scattering just two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Hall would follow his performance with two scoreless innings of relief allowing just two hits with one walk and two strikeouts, before Nic Melton, Branden Barna, TJ Brooks and Howell would combine to pick up the final defensive outs for Asheville. Howell collected the save for the Bulldogs, the second of his career. The Bulldog infield also turned a pair of 6-4-3 double plays at key moments in the game. Â Â
