Baseball Falls in Saturday Conference Tilt at USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball fell by a score of 14-1 at USC Upstate in its Big South Conference tilt on Saturday (Mar. 28).

USC Upstate struck first with three runs in the home half of the first, before Asheville responded with a run in the top of the second when Ben Green scored on a Tyler Parks double down the right field line. The teams traded scoreless frames through the third and fourth innings, before Upstate would pull away for the victory with three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, five in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Green paced the offense in the game with two hits with both going for doubles, while Logan Lowe, Patrick Gillen, Parks and Zeb Swangim each had one hit in the game. Parks drove in Asheville's run in the game, while Green scored the lone run for the Bulldogs. Cooper Smith (1-3) took the loss on the bump for the Bulldogs allowing six runs, five earned through 4.1 innings with two walks and one strikeout. Ryland Howell, Nic Melton and Landon Gross each collected 0.2 innings of relief, before TJ Brooks handled the final 1.2 innings of relief. Brooks allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts in his outing.
