Baseball Drops Rubber Game at Villanova on Sunday

Each team scored one run in the first inning, with an Owen Michelson groundout scoring Logan Lowe to score the game's first run. Villanova scored one run in the bottom of the first to tie the game, before the teams traded scoreless frames in the second. Villanova responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, before the teams again traded scoreless frames in the fourth. After Villanova added one in the fifth, Asheville responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to cut into the lead. Blaize Johnson led off the inning with a walk, before Michelson would draw a one-out walk and Jake Minarik was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ben Green grounded out to bring Johnson, before Michelson scored on a wild pitch. Minarik would later score on a wild pitch to cap off the inning. Villanova would pull away in the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Asheville would score one run in the seventh and one in the ninth to bring the game to its final score. Patrick Gillen brought home Logan Lowe on a RBI single in the seventh, before Green singled home Lowe in the ninth.

Gillen paced the offense with three hits including one double, Lowe and Green had two hits each and Zeb Swangim also had one hit. Green drove in two runs in the game, while Gillen also drove in one. Lowe scored three times in the game, while Johnson, Michelson and Minarik each scored once. Drew Turner (3-3) took the loss on the bump, before handing the ball off to Ben Green for two innings of relief. TJ Brooks finished the game with a hitless inning of relief picking up one strikeout.
