Bulldogs Gut Out 4-3 Win over Longwood on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis gutted out a 4-3 win over Longwood on Saturday (Mar. 21) to move to 2-0 in Big South Conference play on the season.

The Bulldogs captured the doubles point with two wins in doubles play, before winning three singles matches to secure the pivotal conference win.

After Longwood began doubles play with a win at No. 3, Angelina Joy Hug and Sofia Segui knotted up doubles play with a 6-4 win at No. 1 over Oriana Izarra and Bali Song. Valeria Centeno and Isabella Moss would team up at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Feline van Eijkelenburg and Alexandra Magia.

Centeno started singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Nicole Di Bisceglia, before Longwood got on the board with a win at No. 2 singles. Hug would grind out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 over Song to put Asheville up 3-1, before Segui clinched the match for Asheville with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Izarra at No. 4. Longwood brought the match to its final score with wins at No. 3 and No. 5.

The Bulldogs (9-6, 2-0 Big South Conference) return to action next Saturday (Mar. 28) to host Campbell in non-conference action. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. from Asheville School.
