Bulldogs Grind Out 4-3 Win over UNC Greensboro on Thursday (Feb. 26)

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis was able to grind out a 4-3 win over UNC Greensboro on the road on Thursday (Feb. 26).

The Bulldogs won two out of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point, before ending up grinding out the victory in singles play. Avery Sager and Maria Sol Alvarez Brandon started things off with a 6-2 win over Kayley Bushnell and Ivet Sala-Sanchez at No. 3, before UNCG knotted the match at No. 2 with a win. Angelina Joy Hug and Sofia Segui would clinch the doubles point for Asheville with a 6-4 win at No. 1 over Sydney Bly and Sofia Somoano.

Brandon began singles play with a win by retirement over Bushnell to put the Dogs up 2-1, before UNCG got on the board with a win at No. 2. Sager was able to grind out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Bly at No. 3, before UNCG rallied to tie the match 3-3 with wins at No. 5 and No. 6. Hug would rally to clinch the match for the Bulldogs, rallying from 5-3 down in the third set for a 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win. Â
