Bulldogs Pick Up Sunday Win over UNC Wilmington in Non-Conference Action

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis picked up a 6-1 win over UNC Wilmington in non-conference action on Sunday (Feb. 22).

The Bulldogs won two out of three doubles contests to secure the doubles point, before winning five out of six singles matches to get the win.

Valeria Centeno and Isabella Moss started things off with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Lucia Gomez and Simay Keles, before UNC Wilmington evened up doubles play with a win at No. 3. Angelina Joy Hug and Sofia Segui beat Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point.

Hug would start singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Arli at No. 1, before UNCW picked up a win at No. 2 singles. Avery Sager was able to grind out a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-2) win over Keles at No. 3, before Maria Sol Alvarez Brandon beat Gomez 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 4. Segui would earn a 6-1, 6-2 win over Alex Borcich at No. 5, before Centeno would close things out with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sophia Catino at No. 6.

"This was a team effort today, as the girls competed hard for each other throughout the match!" said head coach Jeff Maren. "We are applying what we have been practicing, and our energy has been very good! These things produce good results, so we are looking forward to repeating today's efforts in our next matches!"
