Bulldogs Move into Fourth After Strong Second Day at ASUN Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving moved into fourth place after a strong second day at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Thursday (Feb. 19).

The Bulldogs totaled three lifetime-best efforts in the finals along with three season-best marks. Eleanor Pichetto (218.10) and Leigha Travis (217.65) took fourth and fifth respectively in the B final of the 1M diving event, while Haley Fein placed 18th (160.70) as the trio picked up 36 points for the Bulldogs. The quartet of Anna Marcotti, Andie Quisumbing, Beatrice Cocconcelli and Gracie Hunt finished fifth in the 200 free relay in a season-best 1:33.79. Taylor Smith and Gianna Riffel finished in a tie for 13th in the 100 fly in 56.23, while Quisumbing finished 15th in the event in 56.85. Alessia Cunegatti took sixth in the 400 IM in a season-best 4:22.94, while Anna Kate Halligan finished eighth in 4:26.35. Rose Sciaudone also took 12th in the event in a lifetime-best 4:30.27. Anna Marcotti took sixth in the 200 free in 1:50.02, while Miriam Wheatley finished 16th in the event in 1:53.45. Roberta Marchesi also finished 18th in the event in a lifetime-best 1:53.12. The team of Cocconcelli, Gracelyn Cox, Smith and Marcotti finished sixth in the 400 medley relay in 3:46.50, with Cocconcelli swimming a lifetime-best split of 57.02.

The Bulldogs totaled nine swimming finalists on the second day, to go along with five lifetime-best times and four season-best times. Three swimmers qualified for the B final of the 100 fly, with Smith (55.95) swimming a season-best 55.95, Riffell swimming a lifetime-best 56.19 and Quisumbing finishign in 56.57. Savanna Bush also swam a season-best in the event in 59.41. Halligan posted a lifetime-best time of 4:23.82 to qualify for the A final of the 400 IM, while Cunegatti also qualified for the A final with a time of 4:25.39. Sciaudone earned a spot in the B final with a lifetime-best time of 4:31.15, while Tess Peny also swam the event in 4:38.71. Marcotti punched her ticket to the A final of the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:49.71, while Wheatley earned a spot in the B final with a lifetime-best time of 1:53.57. Marchesi earned a spot in the C final with a lifetime-best time of 1:54.93, while Celine Petruschke also swam a season-best time of 1:57.58. Kathryn Walters (1:59.27) and Danai Gkogkosi (2:00.72) also competed in the event. On the diving boards, Travis (198.40) and Pichetto (195.50) punched their ticket to the B final in the 1M event while Haley Fein (160.70) also qualified for the C final. Â Â
