Women's Soccer Falls to Davidson in Close Fashion on Senior Day

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Women's Soccer fell to Davidson on Sunday (Sept. 14) in a close 1-0 match on Senior Day at Greenwood Field.
The teams traded runs in the opening half, with Davidson outshooting Asheville 7-5 in the period along with earning six corner kicks to Asheville's none. Asheville's best chance of the half came in the 38th minute when Akari Kishida loaded up from a long way out on the far wing and blasted one on frame that rang off the right post.
The teams continued to trade runs throughout the second half, before a foul deep in the Asheville end set Davidson up with a free kick in the 78th minute. Sophia Whiddon cashed in on the opportunity, scoring her third goal of the season on a high curling ball to the top left corner to give Davidson their 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs attempted to advance the ball into the Davidson end after the goal but were unable to find the back of the net.
Asheville totaled nine shots in the match with three on goal. Kishida and Georgia Duke each had two shots in the match, while Manuela Schreier, Nao Kawasaki, Lilly Graumann, Maleigh Dawson and Abby Foulk each had one shot for Asheville. Gracie Murray (2-4-1) made four saves between the pipes.
The Bulldogs (4-4-1) return to action next Saturday (Sept. 20) to open Big South Conference play against Charleston Southern. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
