Asheville Drops Match to Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville volleyball came out strong to take the opening set but fell in four to Queens on Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon inside Curry Arena. The Bulldogs dropped the match 25-17, 24-26, 19-25, 20-25.
Ana Djurovic led Asheville with 11 kills while adding five digs and three block assists. Baylor Herlehy posted nine kills and seven block assists, while Albertine van der Goot was efficient with eight kills on a .318 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks. Kylie Cackovic also had eight kills.
Setters Selina Koc and Payton Rolfsen paced the offense with 21 and 15 assists, respectively, with Koc recording a double-double with 10 digs. Michelle Thao collected a team-high 16 digs, Izzy Perkins added nine, and Cackovic recorded eight.
Asheville controlled the first set behind a balanced attack and strong blocking presence, holding Queens to just a .129 hitting percentage in the frame. Asheville had a .297 attack percentage, the highest hitting percentage in a set of the match, with Cackovic leading Asheville's efforts with five kills. After a tie to start the set, the Bulldogs held the lead for the remainder of the opening frame.
The second set featured nine ties and saw the Bulldogs push Queens to the brink before falling 26-24. Asheville led 23-21 before Queens closed the set on a 5-1 run.
The Royals carried the momentum into the third and fourth sets to perform the match comeback and earn the victory.
Baylor Herlehy was named to the Queens Fall Classic All-Tournament Team. Herlehy finished the weekend with 25 kills and 18 total blocks.
UNC Asheville (2-8) returns to the Justice Center on Tuesday (Sept. 16) to take on NC Central at 6 p.m.
