ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis has signed Sofia Segui and Isabella Moss to join the Bulldogs this upcoming year, announced today (Wednesday, June 25) by head coach Jeff Maren.
Â
Segui played tennis at IES Calvia, while also earning her school's Academic Honors Award.
Â
"I chose UNC Asheville because I felt an immediate connection with Coach Maren and his vision for the program," said Segui. "I truly believe joining the team will help me grow not only as a tennis player, but also as a person. I'm incredibly excited for this next chapter and can't wait to be part of something special." Â
Â
"Sofia is not only an amazing player but an amazing person!" said Maren. "She is full of life and is passionate about becoming the best version of herself! I have no doubt that she will impact our team in many ways! We are blessed to have Sofia as a member of our tennis family!"
Â
The Palma, Mallorca, Spain native plans to major in business.
Â
Moss joins the Bulldogs from Great Britain, where she is currently ranked No. 37 on the U-18 circuit.
Â
"I chose the University of North Carolina Asheville as I felt it was the best fit for me, both on and off court," said Moss. "Straight away from my first phone calls with Coach Maren and Coach Duncan, I felt this was a team where I could really improve and learn under their guidance. Their coaching philosophy and team values really resonated with me - they made what is a huge decision, really quite an easy decision for me! I think UNC Asheville will be a place where I can really grow as both a player and a person and am beyond thrilled to be joining this August, and so excited for this new chapter!"
Â
"I am beyond excited to welcome Izzi to our tennis family!" said Maren. "I knew very quickly that she would be a good fit for us! Not only is she a great player, but she is also committed to growth and has a passion to learn and improve! She is also a great fighter on court, which I believe is a key ingredient to success at this level. Izzi's personality and character are welcoming and will make it easy for her to blend perfectly with her teammates! I can't wait for August to come!"
