Keira Stewart Earns Big South Conference Co-Freshman of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis player Keira Stewart has been named the Big South Conference Co-Freshman of the Week along with Natalie Crawford of Gardner-Webb, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Apr. 9). Â

Asheville went 1-1 last week to move their record to 12-6 and 4-1 in the Big South, with Asheville beating Presbyterian 6-1 on Wednesday (Apr. 2) and losing to Charleston Southern 5-1 on Friday (Apr. 4).Â
Â
Stewart is now 10-1 in singles play on the season, while also being 3-1 in doubles play on the year.

Against Presbyterian, Stewart teamed up with Ari Siegel for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles before winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Against Charleston Southern, she and Siegel dropped a tough 7-6 (7-3) tiebreak match in doubles before she rallied to win at No. 5 singles 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

This is Stewart's second career Freshman of the Week honor. The Greenville, S.C. native is a psychology major.

The Bulldogs (12-6, 4-1 Big South Conference) advance to the Big South Conference Championships to be held Apr. 18-19 in Lexington, S.C.
