ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball walked off Radford 6-5 in the series opener Friday night (Apr. 25) at Greenwood Field.
Â
Asheville jumped out in front with three runs in the home half of the first, an inning that began with a Corbin Lanowitz single to right center and a Logan Lowe bunt single. Patrick Gillen would lace a one-out single to right center to score Lanowitz, before Blaize Johnson to left to load the bases. Jake Minarik would rip a single to third base to score Lowe, before Owen Michelson would score Gillen on a sacrifice fly down the right field line. Radford got on the board with one in the fourth, before Asheville added one in the fifth when Lowe scored on a Rylen Stockton double to right center. The Bulldogs would ride another strong start into the eighth by Clay Edmondson, before tacking on an insurance run in the home half when Jake Pereira doubled home Jake Minarik. Radford would rally to tie the game 5-5 in the ninth, before coming up empty in the visiting half of the 10th. Brock Mercado would draw a one-out walk to jump start the offense in the home half of the 10th, before being lifted for pinch-runner Isaac Turner who would move up to second on a ground ball on the infield for the second out. Lanowitz was intentionally walked to set the stage for Lowe, who drove the first pitch he saw into the left center gap as Turner trotted home and the Bulldogs walked it off for the Big South Conference win.
