Angelina Joy Hug Named Big South Conference Co-Player of the Week, Keira Stewart Named Freshman of the Week

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis earned its second Big South Conference weekly awards sweep of the season on Wednesday (Apr. 2), with Angelina Joy Hug being named Co-Player of the Week and Keira Stewart being named Freshman of the Week.
 
Asheville moved its record to 11-5 and 3-0 in the Big South Conference with a 5-2 win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday (Mar. 26) and a 7-0 win over Radford on Saturday (Mar. 29).
 
Hug picked up one singles win to move her singles record to 12-3 on the season, while dropping one doubles match with another being unfinished. She picked up a 7-6, 6-2 win over Azilee Poulin of Gardner-Webb and a 6-1, 6-0 win over Julia Abrams of Radford.
 
This is Hug's third career Player of the Week honor and fifth career Big South Conference weekly honor. The Murten, Switzerland native is a health and wellness promotion major. 
 
Stewart went 2-0 in doubles and 1-1 in singles play. She moved her singles record to 8-1 on the season as a freshman and she is also 2-0 in doubles on the season.  
 
Stewart earned a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles with Ari Siegel over Poulin and Greta Murzsa of Gardner-Webb, before falling 6-4, 6-2 to Arili Bishoff at No. 5 singles. She and Siegel then beat Brooke Murphy and Michaela Stephens 6-2 at No. 2 doubles against Radford, before she beat Rachel Ekanem 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
 
This is Stewart's first career Freshman of the Week honor. The Greenville, S.C. native is a psychology major.
 
The Bulldogs (11-5, 3-0 Big South Conference) return to action on Friday (Apr. 4) hosting Charleston Southern for Senior Day. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. from the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
