Baseball Drops Non-Conference Contest to Pitt on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball dropped its non-conference contest to Pitt on Tuesday (Mar. 4) at Greenwood Field.

Asheville struck first in the bottom of the first when Brock Mercado singled home Corbin Lanowitz, before Pitt scored two runs in the top of the second to take the lead in the game. The teams would trade scoreless frames until the top of the eighth, before Pitt brought the game to its final score with five runs in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Patrick Gillen led the Bulldogs with two hits in the game, while Logan Lowe, Lanowitz, Brock Mercado, Coleman McGinnis and Caiden Chilausky each had one. Mercado drove in the lone run for Asheville, while Lanowitz scored the lone run in the game. Shea Walker (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs allowing two runs, one earned in two innings with two hits, one walk and one strikeout. He was relieved by two scoreless innings from Garrett Crum who allowed three walks and struck out one, before Ryland Howell fired two scoreless innings with two hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Matthew Hall contributed one scoreless inning allowing two hits and one walk, along with one strikeout, before Sam Thompson, Chase Buscher, Nic Melton and Zachary Gaydos combined to take the eighth and ninth innings.
