RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team traveled to play Radford on Thursday (Feb. 20) in the Dedmon Center and fell to the Highlanders 53-77.
With his second basket of the night, Josh Banks scored his 1,000th career point. Banks finished the night with eight points and four rebounds.
Toyaz Solomon led Asheville with 10 points for his 26th game in double-figure scoring. He added four rebounds and two blocks to his stat line. Kameron Taylor scored 10 points, Jordan Marsh scored eight, and Greg Gantt Jr. led the team with six rebounds, three assists and added five points to his final stat line.
Josh Banks opened the night's scoring with a layup before Radford responded with an equalizing shot and a 3-pointer. The Highlanders held the lead for the next five minutes until Marsh evened it at 13 with a jumper in the paint, and Jemal Davis put Asheville ahead by one with a free throw. This, however, would be Asheville's last point for the next 8:46, as Radford went on a 21-0 run to jump ahead 34-14. The Highlanders would extend their lead out to 25 to close the first half, and Radford led by 22 points or more in the second half.
Asheville will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 22, as the Bulldogs take on Longwood at 2 p.m. in Kimmel Arena. Prior to Saturday's game, Asheville will honor the senior members of the program.
