Bulldogs Rally Past Georgia Southern to Continue Home Winning Streak

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving rallied past Georgia Southern on Saturday (Dec. 13) at the Justice Center Pool by a score of 158.5-141.5 to extend the program's home winning streak to 16 in a row dating back to October 2020.

Following the sixth event of the day in the 200 fly, the Bulldogs trailed by as many as 36 points in the meet. Asheville went on to post eight straight event wins and pull away in the final relay to mount a massive comeback at home.

Senior Anna Marcotti paced the Bulldogs with three individual wins on the day, taking the 200 free (1:55.03), the 50 free (24.30) and the 100 free (52.91). Marcotti also led the winning 200 free relay team with a split of 24.29. Senior Gracelyn Cox posted two individual wins in the meet, winning the 100 breast in 1:06.80) and the 200 breast in 2:25.20. Junior Alessia Cunegatti also posted two individual wins in the meet winning the 200 back in 2:06.87 and the 200 IM in 2:08.05. Cunegatti also took second in the 200 fly in 2:09.40.

"Today was another amazing win at home," said senior Anna Marcotti. "This team has shown multiple times that it's never too late to make a comeback because the meet is not over until the last event. The cheering and the excitement, together with the hard work we put in the pool every day is what made us win the meet today. I had so much fun and I'm so proud of every single member of the team!"

The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) return to the water Jan. 9 when the swimmers head to Gardner-Webb in Atlantic Sun Conference action. The teams will hit the water at 5:00 p.m. from Boiling Springs, N.C.
