Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving Completes Annual Intrasquad Alumni Meet

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving completed its annual intrasquad alumni meet Friday and Saturday (Sept. 18-19).

Diving led off the weekend affair with the one-meter event on Friday (Sept. 18). Senior Leigha Travis won the event handily as Blue teammate Miley Cook took second to earn big team points. The silver squad took third and fourth with Horizon Hanson and Eleanor Pichetto respectively. By the end of the event, Blue led Silver 8-1.

The swimmers, divers and visiting alums made the meet interesting with multiple lead changes and some fun alumni participation in the 100 IM and Diver and Alum relay.

The first individual event, the 400 freestyle, ended in an exciting tie with Rose Sciaudone representing the Silver team and Roberta Marchesi for the Blue squad. Each of these team members also won an additional individual event, with Marchesi winning 150 back and Sciaudone the 150 fly.

The Silver divers and alum pairings scored big points for the squad going first and second in the event.

Prior to the last event, the 800 free relay, Silver led Blue 48-40. The Blue squad of Anna Kate Halligan, Kate Hurley, Celine Petruschke and Marchesi led the way to win the event.

However, Silver outlasted Blue 48-47 after the event to bring the meet to its final score.

Silver finished with seven event wins while Blue concluded the competition with five wins.

"The coaching staff enjoyed watching the new team members join in the team fun and experience their first collegiate competition," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "We also recognize areas needing improvement, but overall a fun weekend of learning for the team and celebrating with the returning Alumni!"

The Bulldogs return to action to open the regular season Oct. 16-17 to take on East Carolina and Tulane. The action begins on that Friday (Oct. 16) at 5:00 p.m. from Greenville, N.C. The Saturday action begins at 11:00 a.m.
