GAME ONE RECAP
UNC Asheville battled Wichita State tough throughout the first half before ultimately falling, 75-58, at Charles Koch Arena.
The first 20 minutes featured six lead changes and eight ties, with Daniel Thomas putting Asheville ahead late before the Shockers closed the half on a 6-2 run to lead 34-30. DJ Patrick opened the second half with a triple, but Wichita stretched its advantage to multiple possessions. A late push from Toyaz Solomon and Kameron Taylor cut the deficit to three (54-51) with 8:55 remaining, but the Shockers held control the rest of the way.
Solomon led the Bulldogs with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Patrick added 13 points and went 3-for-7 from deep, while Taylor finished with nine points and two blocks. Justin Wright and Myles Mayfield chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern will open its home slate of the 2025-26 season against Asheville, as the Eagles opened their season with a 89-92 loss at East Carolina. Three Eagles scored in double-figures with Alden Applewhite leading the way with 21 points, while Tyren Moore tallied 18 points. Spudd Webb chipped in 16 points on 50 percent shooting.
Georgia Southern was picked to finish 10th out of the 14-team Sun Belt league. The Eagles' Tyren Moore was named to the First Team, while Nakavieon White was named to the third team.
Last season, the Eagles went 17-16 overall and 8-10 in Sun Belt play. This will be the first time Asheville and Georgia Southern have faced off.
