Women’s Team Finishes Ninth to Highlight Asheville in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UNC Asheville cross country teams competed in the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday (Oct. 4), racing alongside the toughest competition of the season. The women secured a ninth-place finish out of 31 teams, and the men took 29th out of 32. The Bulldogs set a total of seven personal bests across both sections.
Alison Graf led the women's team across the finish line, clocking a personal best time of 17:44 and placing 44th. Isabel Richardson followed Graf, placing 52nd in a time of 17:49. Next to cross the line was Aneta Kucerová in 59th-place (17:59), followed by Marika Dickel in 76th (18:07) and Addi Corl in 121st (18:35) to round out the top five finishers. For the first time in program history, the Bulldogs put three women under 18 minutes in a 5k race.
Other top-200 finishes for Asheville came from Ella Moore (125th, 18:39), Sophie Lundin (130th, 18:42), Payton Murphy (185th, 19:12, PR), and Nikole Baikova (186th, 19:13, PR). Also representing Asheville were Lauren Sochia (209th, 19:27, PR), Grace Thompson (221st, 19:34), and Ashley Keazer (278th, 20:42, PR).
On the men's side, the Bulldog pack was led by Jan Málek with his 83rd-place finish in 25:08. Behind Málek were Quinn Jacquez in 106th-place (25:21), Tadiyos Sloan-Westmoreland (159th, 25:41, PR), Jonas Roach (210th, 26:12), and Lance Surles (220th, 26:18, PR) to complete the top-five point scoring team for Asheville. Next to finish was Felix Bett (226th, 26:21), followed by Bennett Moreno (243rd, 26:38) and Asher Roach (266th, 26:53).
The Bulldogs will next compete at the Upstate Invite on Saturday, Oct 18.
