Rolfsen Reaches 1,000 Assists; Bulldogs Fall to Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNC Asheville volleyball dropped a straight-sets decision (18-25, 18-25, 16-25) to Charleston Southern on Saturday evening at the CSU Field House.
With her 17 assists tonight, Payton Rolfsen reached 1,000 assists as a Bulldog and now has 2,344 career assists.
Ana Djurovic led the Bulldogs with a team-high eight digs, eight kills while hitting .304. Albertine van der Goot added five kills on a .286 clip, and Addie Brookbank recorded six kills and six digs.
Defensively, Izzy Perkins matched Djurovic for a team-high nine digs, followed by Michelle Thao with eight digs.
Set 1
The two teams were locked 4-4 when a kill from Charleston Southern sparked a 7-1 run by the Bucs to put them ahead 11-5. CSU worked its way out to a 10 point lead and never looked back. Asheville made things interesting as the Bulldogs trailed 24-14, before going on a 4-0 run before a kill from Charleston Southern secured the opening frame for the Bucs.
Set 2
The Bulldogs responded with a balanced attack in the second set, highlighted by consecutive kills from Addie Brookbank to take a 10–7 lead. The Buccaneers would go on to tie the score at 11 and surge out to a 19-13 lead, which the Bulldogs were unable to recover from, and CSU took a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3
Asheville jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but the Bulldogs were unable to hold the advantage, as the Bucs quickly moved ahead 7-6. Asheville led 9-8 following an ace from Thao, but Charleston Southern answered with a 5-0 run to move ahead 13-9. Asheville was unable to cut down on CSU's lead, and the Buccaneers took the match in three sets.
UP NEXT
Asheville is on the road again next weekend as the Bulldogs take on Radford on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. before facing High Point on Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
