Bulldogs Blank Longwood for Key Conference Shutout

FARMVILLE, Va. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer blanked Longwood 3-0 on Sunday (Oct. 12) for a key Big South Conference clean sheet, marking three straight shutout victories for the Bulldogs on the road in Farmville.
The Bulldogs applied pressure early in the first half and eventually struck first in the eighth minute off a free kick. Rinta Takagi sent the free kick into the box, that eventually found the head of Benian Yao. Yao advanced the play to the other side of the goal, before Louis Beckett stashed it home for his first of the season and third of his Bulldog career.
Longwood would find some offensive rhythym early in the second half, before the Bulldogs would push back and ultimately score the match's final goal. The Bulldogs worked their way down the pitch before Arnor Hardarson played a ball through a scramble in the box. Beckett was able to get his foot on it to punch it in for his second of the day and his second of the season.
Asheville outshot Longwood 11-6 in the match including 7-3 in shots on frame, while each team totaled five corner kicks in the contest. Beckett paced the offense and matched his career-high with a game-high four shots in the match, while Mendes also had three shots in the contest. Yao added two shots to match his career high, while Hardarson and Lennart Granzow each had one shot in the match. Lucca Barros (6-4-1) stopped three shots between the pipes for his second shutout of the season and the second of his career.
The Bulldogs (6-4-1, 2-2-0 Big South Conference) return to action next Saturday (Oct. 18) to host Presbyterian for Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
