Bulldogs Secure Third Straight Shutout with 7-0 Win over Lenoir-Rhyne

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -Â UNC Asheville Women's Tennis secured its third straight shutout with a 7-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday (Jan. 29) at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. This is Asheville's second such streak in the last two seasons, blanking Tennessee State, North Greenville and Queens (N.C.) from Feb. 11-18 of last season.

Asheville swept doubles play before going on to complete singles play winning all six matches to wrap up the shutout.

Angelina Joy Hug and Ari Siegel beat Runa Muderrisoglu and Claudia Orsini 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, before Avery Sager and reigning Big South Conference Player of the Week Louise Booker beat Nellie Wahlberg and Esther Magnusson 6-1. Elizabeth Tindera and Alexis Nyborg went on to beat Enrica Favaron and Alexa Allison 6-0 at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep. Hug would go on to beat Muderrisoglu 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, before Booker beat Walhberg 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Reigning Big South Conference Freshman of the Week Julia Caffarena picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Orsini at No. 3, before Luise van Rensburg beat Magnusson 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 4 in the only three-set match of the contest. Keira Stewart went on to defeat Favaron 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 before Valeria Centeno beat Allison by an identical score of 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
