ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team completed the first half of Big South Conference play on Wednesday and moved to 7-1 in league action following a 72-65 victory over Radford in Kimmel Arena.

SIX STRAIGHT

Asheville extends its win streak to six, its longest win streak since the Bulldogs won nine in a row during conference play two seasons ago.

TEAM EFFORT

For the 15th time this season, four or more Bulldogs finished with double-digit points, led by Jordan Marsh with 19. Marsh was followed by Toyaz Solomon with 16, Kameron Taylor with 14 and Josh Banks with 13.

Marsh added five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a career-high three blocks to his stat line. Marsh went 8-15 from the field with one triple.

Solomon went 6-9 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe. He added seven rebounds to his stat line.

Taylor went 6-11 from the field with a triple and had a career-high eight rebounds.

Banks led the team with three 3-pointers and added two steals, two rebounds, and a block to his stat line.

Greg Gantt Jr. led the team with six assists, adding six rebounds and two blocks to his stat line.

As a team, Asheville dominated the paint, outshooting Radford 40-28 in the blue. The Bulldogs outscored Radford 14-8 off turnovers and 14-6 following fast breaks. Asheville shot 49.1% from the field, and the Bulldogs shot 85.7% from the free throw line.

ON THE COURT

A hard-fought layup from Gantt got Asheville on the board first Wednesday evening, and Gantt was quick to find more points for Asheville as he assisted Connor Dubsky with Asheville's first triple of the game less than a minute later.

Marsh subbed into the game, and within 17 seconds, he found his way on the board with a 3-pointer from Dubsky. Marsh's triple gave Asheville a 7-point lead, the Bulldogs' largest lead in the first half. With 13:17 to go in the opening frame, Marsh connected for a jumper from the paint before Radford responded with an 8-0 run to take the Highlanders' first lead of the night (19-17).

An alley-oop from Gantt to Solomon evened the score at 19, but Radford responded with a jumper, and the Highlanders would not allow Asheville to retake the lead for the next 6:38. Asheville did not allow Radford to extend their lead past four points and the Bulldogs closed the first half with back-to-back dunks from Jemal Davis and Banks to end the first half back in the lead (32-30).

Asheville opened the second half on an 18-2 run to jump ahead 50-32. Taylor opened the half with a driving layup following a steal from Gantt. Radford brought Asheville's lead back down to two before the Bulldogs scored the following 16 points. Solomon had his second dunk of the night, followed by a layup to give Asheville a six-point lead, and Banks followed with his first 3-pointer. Marsh dished out a dime to Taylor following a steal to put the Bulldogs ahead by double figures before grabbing a defensive board and racing down the court to extend Asheville's lead out to 13. Another layup from Marsh and a triple from Banks concluded Asheville's run to put the Bulldogs ahead by 18.

Asheville led by double figures for over 11 minutes of action before back-to-back 3-pointers from Radford brought Asheville's lead down to seven (61-54). A 3-pointer and an alley-oop by Taylor put Asheville back out to a 12-point lead before Radford brought it back down to eight. With 1:28 left in the contest, Radford went on a 7-0 run and brought Asheville's lead down to three, but two successful trips to the free throw line from Banks and Solomon helped extend Asheville back out to a seven-point lead and secured Asheville's 10th victory in Kimmel this season.

Asheville moves to 16-6 on the season and will be back in action next Thursday, February 6, in Kimmel Arena as Asheville hosts Gardner-Webb in an ESPNU matchup at 9 p.m.
