CLINTON, S.C. – Jordan Marsh recorded 23 points in the second half, 10 coming in the final 3:40, to help the UNC Asheville men's basketball team to a 96-87 victory over Presbyterian.
Marsh finished the game with a career-high 30 points, shooting 11-17 from the field, 2-3 from 3-point range, and 6-7 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
With Presbyterian trailing by one with under four minutes remaining in the game, Toyaz Solomon grabbed an offensive rebound and found Marsh from behind the 3-point arc, who was able to capitalize on the second-chance opportunity and extended Asheville's lead out to four. The Blue House responded with a 2-point jump shot before Solomon re-extended Asheville's lead back out to four with a dunk from Greg Gantt Jr.
Solomon was the second-highest scorer on the day for Asheville with 18 points, going 8-15 from the field, 2-2 from the free throw line, and added seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal to his stat line.
A free throw from PC once again made it a one-possession game, but a layup from Marsh, followed by a 3-pointer from Josh Banks, helped extend Asheville's lead out by eight with 1:31 remaining, and the Blue Hose were unable to battle back.
Josh Banks finished with 16 points, going 4-8 from the field, 3-4 from 3-point range, and 5-7 from the charity stripe.
Asheville held the lead for majority of the game as the Bulldogs were ahead for 33:43, and PC had the lead for 4:54. There were five lead changes and two ties.
After Presbyterian opened the game with a successful trip to the free throw line, Marsh helped get the Bulldogs out on top with a 3-pointer, followed by a layup. Marsh's back-to-back baskets sparked a 10-3 run from Asheville that was concluded by a 3-pointer from Fletcher Abee. Abee led Asheville in the first half with 10 points and three triples and finished the game with 16 points, going 5-7 from 3-point range.
Abee's first 3-pointer was the first of four consecutive 3-pointers from Asheville, as all of the Bulldogs' baskets from the field from 16:54 to 13:33 were 3-pointers, three from Abee and one from Banks. Asheville continued to extend its lead, with Connor Dubsky earning the Bulldogs a 10-point lead following three free throws (29-19) with 10:28 to go.
Dubsky's free throws would be the last baskets for the Bulldogs for over the following three minutes as Presbyterian went on a 10-0 run to even the score at 29 with 7:11 to go in the half. A 3-pointer gave PC a one-point lead, and the Blue Hose were able to extend their lead by four in the final minutes of the opening frame. With 2:10 to go, a pair of free throws from Kameron Taylor and a layup from Marsh tied the score at 41. Jemal Davis connected for a layup with a minute remaining, and Asheville entered the second half ahead 45-44.
Asheville held the lead for all but 18 seconds in the second half. A layup from Presbyterian with 8:10 remaining put the Blue Hose ahead by one, but Abee's final 3-pointer of the game helped Asheville back in the lead, where the Bulldogs would stay for the rest of the contest.
Gantt led Asheville with five assists and added five points and four rebounds to his stat line. Dubsky finished with five points, Taylor had four, and Davis had two. As a team, Asheville shot 56.5% from the field, going 31-55, 71.4% from 3-point range (10-14) and 24-29 from the charity stripe (82.8%). The Bulldogs' 3-point shooting percentage is Asheville's best 3-point percentage in a game this season.
The Bulldogs outscored Presbyterian 22-6 off turnovers, 36-34 in the paint, 16-13 off second-chance points, and 9-7 following fast breaks.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Wednesday, January 15, as Asheville hosts USC Upstate to kick off the 2025 portion of the Ingles I-26 Rivalry.
