09.20.2024 | Cross Country
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville cross country team will make the short journey to Brevard, North Carolina, for the Inaugural Brevard XC Classic this Saturday (Sept. 21). Sixteen Bulldogs are set to compete, with two Bulldogs opening their seasons on Saturday.
The Bulldogs had a very successful meet for both teams at the Furman Invitational last Saturday (Sept. 14). Nineteen Bulldogs grabbed personal bests, and 10 Bulldogs secured top-50 finishes over the 6k course. Following their impressive performances, three Bulldogs earned Big South Weekly Honors. Adam Hessler was named Big South Conference Men's Runner of the Week, with Addi Cole and Paul Kiprotich sweeping this week's Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors.
The Bulldogs will race on a flat grass course for the first time this season. The women's 5k race will commence at 9:00 a.m., with a quick turnaround to the men's 8k race at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday marks the first time in program history that the Bulldogs are set to race at Brevard. The meet hosts placed third (men) and fourth (women) at the USA South Conference last year, Oct. 28.
