Three Separate Bulldogs Score En Route to a Shutout Victory over Davidson

09.14.2024 | Men's Soccer

DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the first time in Division I program history, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team has recorded four consecutive shutouts, as the Bulldogs secured their fourth shutout on Saturday (Sept. 14) in a 3-0 victory over Davidson.

Following Saturday's victory, Asheville advances to 4-1-1 on the season, the best start since 1995, when the Bulldogs went 6-1 to open the year.

The Bulldogs came out with all the momentum, as Benian Yao connected for Asheville's first goal 2:17 into play. Brendan Herb sent a corner kick into the box, and Yao headed it in to give Asheville the early 1-0 lead. Yao's goal is his first of the season.

Asheville took a 2-0 lead into the half, as Seth Hammond connected for his team-leading third goal in the 26th minute. Charlie Wood connected with Myles Edmondson on the outside of the box, who was able to connect with Hammond near the goal.

At the half, Davidson held an 8-5 lead in shots over the Bulldogs, but none of the Wildcats' shots were on goal.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Louis Beckett, at the top of the box, found Herb, who was able to dribble it in for his first goal of the season.

Asheville kept Davidson scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The Wildcats finished the game outshooting the Bulldogs 17-10 but only had two shots on goal, both in the second half.

Charlie Farrar kept his clean sheet going with one save, as he is the only goalie in program history to have four consecutive shutouts. Herb led Asheville's shots with three, followed by Hammond and Edvin Grolimund with two each.

Up next, the Bulldogs open conference play as Asheville faces High Point University in a Big South Conference Championship rematch on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
