Nineteen Bulldogs Grab Personal Bests at Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Twenty-three Bulldogs represented the UNC Asheville Cross Country team on Saturday (Sept. 14) as the Bulldogs competed in the Furman Invitational. Nineteen Bulldogs set personal records, as both the men and women ran a 6K race.
The men's team earned a third-place finish with 93 points, and the women's team finished fourth with 147 points. The men finished behind Furman and Charleston Southern, who entered the season at No. 8 and No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Preseason Southeast Rankings. Asheville entered the season at No. 15. On the women's side, Furman won the race and entered the season at No. 3 in the Southeast.

Senior Adam Hessler was the first Bulldog to cross the line for the men, taking eighth place with a new personal record in the 6K of 18:08.5. Hessler's previous 6K PR was 18:30.3. Hot on his heels was freshman Paul Kiprotich, who opened his collegiate career with an 11th-place finish and time of 18:20.5. Six other Bulldogs claimed top-50 finishes, Quinn Jacquez 19:05.9 (31st), Andrew Okon 19:27.8 (35th), Nate Sullivan 19:44.0 (45th), Jonas Roach 19:47.5 (46th), Logan Russo 19:47.7 (47th) and Jackson Core 19:53.4 (50th). Nine individuals on the men's side recorded personal bests, with four individuals running a collegiate 6K for the first time.

Ella Moore led the Bulldogs in the women's race to finish 24th at 22:32.2. The sophomore ran an impressive 28-second personal best, taking her from No.19 to No. 14 on the Women's 6K Top Times list for Asheville. Moore was followed by freshman Addi Corl, who ran a time of 23:17.7 to place 37th in the race, putting two Bulldogs within the top 50. Just outside the top 50 were freshmen Lily Kelpin (24:04.1) and Ella Warren (24:12.0), who finished in 51st and 52nd place, respectively. Every runner on the women's side set a personal best time, with nine individuals running a collegiate 6K for the first time.
