McNabb Nets First Career Goal; Women’s Soccer Drops Road Contest at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Freshman Mercedes McNabb tallied her first career goal in a Bulldog uniform, but UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped its road contest at Western Carolina on Sunday (Aug. 18) by a score of 6-1.
Western Carolina tallied goals in the 23rd minute and 38th minute to build their halftime lead, before Gracie Murray came up with a big save in the first 30 seconds of the second half. McNabb scored her first goal as a Bulldog from a long way out in the 47th minute off an assist from Daysha Chaney, before Western Carolina would bring the match to its final score with four goals in the second half.
Asheville registered 11 shots in the match, with seven on goal. McNabb led the effort with two shots on target, while Manuela Schreirer, Azalea Mihailovich, Addie Cooper, Julia Hüsch, Ava Bjorkman-Tracy, Nao Kawasaki, Akari Kishida, Daysha Chaney and Kendall Powell each posted one shot in the match. Murray stopped six shots between the pipes in the contest.
The Bulldogs return to action next Sunday (Aug. 25) traveling to Mercer for a non-conference matinee. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Macon, Ga., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
