Bulldogs Conclude Season at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team closed its 2024 season on Friday, as the Bulldogs dropped both games of their season finale doubleheader to Presbyterian.
GAME ONE (AVL- 3, PC- 6)
The Blue Hose opened game one by taking a 6-0 lead through the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh, Dylan Bacot drew a leadoff walk and scored on a two-run home run by Robbie Burnett, his 18th of the season. Burnett finishes the season at No. 2 in program history in single-season home runs.
In the eighth, an infield groundout by Corbin Lanowitz scored Brock Mercado to help the Bulldogs cut Presbyterian's lead in half, but that was as close as Asheville would get as the Blue Hose held their lead for the remainder of the game.
Presbyterian outhit Asheville 11-4. The Bulldogs' four hits came from Burnett, Sam Gallardo, Mercado, and Kohl Abrams. Colby Guy suffered the loss for Asheville.
GAME TWO (AVL- 2, PC- 7)
In game two of the day, Presbyterian jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in the first and second innings. Asheville evened the score in the third with an RBI single from Lanowitz that scored Mercado. Lanowitz went on to score following a balk. The Blue Hose kept Asheville off the board for the remainder of the game and extended their lead with a run in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Presbyterian outhit Asheville 10-6. Lanowitz had two hits and an RBI, Kolby Watson had a hit, Mercado had two hits, and Abrams had one hit. Justin Honeycutt got the start on the bump, tossing the first five innings, and exited the game with the score tied 2-2. Justin Needles came in for relief in the sixth and suffered the loss.
Asheville finishes its season 22-28 and 10-14 in conference play.
