Bulldogs Close Out Regular Season at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – The UNC Asheville track and field team made its final trip of the 2024 regular season this Friday and Saturday for the Georgia Tech Invitational.
FRIDAY RESULTS
Asheville opened strong in the 100m Dash, with DaMarr Harvey finishing 17th at 10.65 and Jalen Anderson finishing 21st at 10.72. Braelin June ran a personal best of 11.43 to take 83rd. For the women, Francesca Cergol secured a personal best of 12.56 (68th), and Elyse Myles finished 78th (12.76).
In the 100m hurdles, Mallory Haney led the Bulldogs to 17th place with her time of 14.62. Following Haney was Lee Kania, who took 48th with a personal best time of 16.47. In the men's 110m hurdles, Zac Weas locked down 15th place with his time of 14.66. Also competitive in the event was Adam Graham, who ran a time of 16.16 to finish in 32nd.
On the men's side of the 1500m, Brock Newsome ran a personal best of 3:56.32 to finish 34th. Not far behind was Alex Haines, who finished 49th (4:00.17). Tyler Niloff ran a personal best of 4:06.25 (59th), and Lance Surles finished 72nd with 4:08.70. In the women's section, Isabel Richardson finished 20th with her time of 4:33.64.
In the steeplechase, Emma Kennett ran a personal best of 11:33.00 to take 17th place in the women's section. Jan Málek locked down a personal best of 9:06.49 to finish in sixth, the highest place finish for Asheville of the day. Also with a personal best was Jonas Roach, who finished in 27th with 9:44.17.
In the final track event of the day, Sophie Lundin finished in 45th at 18:35.27 in the women's 5000m. Yates Hockaday competed on the men's side and finished in 53rd (15:22.20).
On the field side, Brianna Moore led Asheville in both the long jump and javelin throw. She placed sixth in the long jump with a personal best of 6.13 meters and 10th in the javelin throw with a distance of 37.78 meters. Moore's six-place finish was the highest finish for Asheville in Friday's field events. Christina Jones finished 11th in the javelin throw with a personal best distance of 37.05 meters.
In the shot put, Raina Jackson finished 12th with 13.56 meters, and Jaelyn Arnold finished 25th with 11.66 meters.
Adam Graham threw 9.02 meters in the men's shot put to finish 28th and 33.99 meters in the javelin to finish 21st.
SATURDAY RESULTS
Asheville put on a strong showing from start to finish to close out their weekend of racing. Highlighting the day of competition was Alison Graf, who ran a personal best time of 2:10.67 in the women's 800-meter run to finish fourth, the highest-placed finish of the weekend for Asheville. Graf's time also puts her at the second-fastest mark in program history. She was joined in the event by Zoe Bos (42nd, 2:18.64, PR), Amanda Orban (51st, 2:19.99, PR) and Maddie Hamuka (82nd, 2:30.86).
In the men's section, Alex Haines led the bulldog charge to cross the line with a personal best of 1:53.34 (21st). Close behind was Jaheem O'Hara, who ran a personal best of 1:54.43 (30th), and Brandon Kalasnik, who ran a personal best time of 1:56.19 (47th). Next to finish was Preston Core (67th, 1:58.45), Tyler Niloff (85th, 2:01.17, PR), Brock Newsome (88th, 2:01.82) and Lance Surles (99th, 2:05.71).
In the 400m, Braelin June finished in 49th (50.05), and Christopher Owens finished in 50th (50.17). In the women's 400m hurdles, Lee Kania finished in 1:12.29 to finish in 42nd. On the men's side of the 400m hurdles, Zac Weas ran 58.488 (35th), and Adam Graham ran 58.490 (36th).
In the 200m dash, DaMarr Harvey earned a sixth-place finish at 21.37 on the men's side, and on the women's side, Chaniya Owens finished in 69th at 26.27, a collegiate personal best.
In the women's discus throw, Madison Hannah threw 38.93 meters to finish 13th, and Christina Jones threw 34.70 meters to finish 22nd. In the women's triple jump, Mallory Haney locked a top-ten finish with her jump of 11.94 meters to claim 10th place. In the same event, Chaniya Owens finished in 26th place with her jump of 11.18 meters.
Gabriel Matthews represented Asheville in the men's triple jump, finishing in 22nd with 13.24 meters.
In the women's 4x100m relay, Asheville placed 18th (47.82) with the team of Elyse Myles, Francesca Cergol, Brianna Moore, and Mallory Haney.
In the 4x400m relay, the women finished in 10th place with a time of 4:01.64. The squad included Amanda Orban, Alison Graf, Zoe Bos, and Elyse Myles. The men's A team (DaMarr Harvey, Jalen Anderson, Braelin June, and Christopher Owens) finished in 11th place with 3:18.88, and the B team (Brandon Kalasnik, Preston Core, Jaheem O'Hara, and Zac Weas) finished in 18th place with 3:24.97.
CATAMOUNT CLASSIC
Three Bulldogs made the short trip to Western Carolina University on Friday to compete at the Catamount Classic. Dylan Major secured the highest place finish in the men's 5000-meter run, with his time of 16:16.72, which put him 14th overall.
In the 1500-meter run, Alyx Beausoleil ran a personal best of 5:23.92 to finish 29th, and John Ramirez finished 27th with a personal best of 4:14.52.
