Bulldogs Secure Series Win with Saturday Victory at Radford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball secured a Big South Conference series win at Radford on Saturday (Apr. 13) with a convincing 7-1 victory.
The teams stayed scoreless through three innings, before Asheville jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth. Cameron Johnson would lead off the fourth with a double to right, before a Corbin Lanowitz single through the right side would put runners at the corners with no one out. Dylan Bacot would single to left to score Johnson and push Lanowitz to third, before Lanowitz would come home on Michael Groves's third sacrifice fly of the season. Brock Mercado would lead off the fifth with a walk, before he advanced to third on a single to right field by Ty Kaufman. Robbie Burnett would single to center to score Mercado pushing Kaufman to third, before Johnson brought Kaufman home with a fly ball to center field coupled with a Radford error. Burnett would later score on a double to left center by Lanowitz to make it 5-0. After Radford scored once in the sixth, Asheville would stretch its lead with one run in the seventh and one run in the ninth. Kaufman led off the seventh with a walk, later scoring on a double into the right field corner by Burnett. Kaufman would later lead off the ninth inning with a walk, before stealing second and yet again scoring on a Burnett double.
Burnett paced the offense with three hits in the game, while Lanowitz also had two hits and Kaufman, Johnson, Bacot and Abrams each had one hit. Burnett drove in three of Asheville's seven runs, while Johnson, Lanowitz, Bacot and Groves each drove in one run in the game. Kaufman scored three times in the game, while Burnett, Johnson and Lanowitz each scored once. Colby Guy (5-3) posted a solid start on the mound for Asheville, firing 6.2 innings scattering three hits and one run while walking five and punching out seven. Justin Honeycutt was excellent in his relief appearance, not allowing a baserunner in 2.1 innings while posting three strikeouts.
